This is the ball that Phil Mickelson plays. Obviously, it's one of Callaway's premier golf balls. Let's take a gander under the hood:
This is a four-piece golf ball consisting of a soft urethane cover, a high density mantle layer, and two core layers. The lower compression inner core surrounded by the higher compression outer core is what gives this ball its extremely long distance. The harder outer core is made of heavy tungsten, which distributes weight away from the center to increase the ball's moment of inertia. Finally, the high-density mantle layer combined with the dual core gives this ball an incredibly high ball speed.
This ball is the first generation of what is now the Callaway Tour iZ. Both balls are very similar and go a long way off the tee. The iZ is even longer then the iX but doesn't seem to spin as much. I'm not big on lots of spin, which is why I prefer the iZ.
If you are a spin junky, don't stop here -- check out the Callaway Tour iS. This is Callaway's softest, "spinniest" tour ball ever. And for a more economical choice, I would recommend the Callaway HX Hot Bite. For distance, you won't be able to tell the difference between it and the premier tour balls, except the cover is a bit harder.
