There is just something about the potential of all those good shots just waiting to happen that makes this such a fun task.

With the Bridgestone Precept J33 Forged Cavity Back iron set, you get a set of clubs forged from 1020 mild carbon steel with a progressive muscle back design. Forging clubs was the only way golf clubs were made (mass produced) from about the 1930s until the late 1970s -- before the advent of investment casting. Forging requires a lot of technical skill, expensive machinery, and the artistry and talent to finish each club to the exacting standards required for optimum performance. Starting with nothing more than a rough hunk of steel, the shape is gradually created by smashing the block of steel in progressively more club head like dies, or molds. To the untrained eye, a golf club is a golf club. But if you can recognize a forged club, you can see the care, attention to detail and -- dare I say -- affection that goes into each one. The greatest demand for forged irons comes from better players -- those who can tell the difference in feel and who also benefit from the enhanced ability to "work" the ball that a forged club allows.

In the J33 irons, Bridgestone has engineered a variable head thickness and progressive Center of Gravity (CG) for enhanced feel and shot-making control. Bridgestone uses the acronym F.S.C. Design -- which stands for Forgiving long irons, Stable mid irons, and Controllable short irons. The progression of the set includes: 2-5 irons made with a forged cavity back and tungsten insert, 6-7 irons with a forged cavity back design, and 8-PW irons that are forged trapezoid muscle back irons. This progression of design makes the long irons easier to hit, the mid-irons with good workability, and the short irons with maximum feel.

The J33 irons are fitted with the True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shaft and Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grip, and are available in right hand only.

If a forged iron is on your wish list, you might also consider the Mizuno MP58 or Tiger Woods Victory Red Forged irons by Nike.

Bridgestone B330 RX Golf Balls | Tour Ball for Amateur or Beginner Swing http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-b330-rx-golf-balls-tour-ball-for-amateur-or-beginner-swing/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-b330-rx-golf-balls-tour-ball-for-amateur-or-beginner-swing/#comments Mon, 24 Jan 2011 18:41:10 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3590 Bridgestone B330 RX Golf Balls This Bridgestone B330 RX ball is an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp and military intelligence (and sane golf enthusiast). It's a tour golf ball designed for amateur swing speeds. What does that even mean? I think it means you get to pay more money for a ball that resembles one that Tiger would play. Why didn't I think of this? I'm going to start selling NASCAR-quality tires for beat-up, old Volkswagens.

All joking aside, I see what Bridgestone is trying to do here. Perhaps those of you with slower swing speeds are feeling neglected by the makers of good quality golf balls. This B330 RX has a great feel that scratch players and tour professionals would appreciate, but is geared for those of you with swing speeds less then 105 mph. This is accomplished by using a gradual compression core. Plus, Bridgestone has reengineered the mantle layer to improve the ball's workability.

I like that Bridgestone has a ball for everybody, and their fitting system is second to none. Having said that, for you golfers with swing spends under 105 mph, I'd save my money and buy the Bridgestone E6s or E6+. But please call me if you need some race car tires for your VW.

Bridgestone Distance Golf Balls e7+ | Hard Surlyn Cover for Low Flight http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-distance-golf-balls-e7-hard-surlyn-cover-for-low-flight/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-distance-golf-balls-e7-hard-surlyn-cover-for-low-flight/#comments Tue, 01 Jun 2010 11:10:45 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2758 Bridgestone Distance Golf Balls e7+ You're looking at the Bridgestone E7+. This ball has been out for a while and has since been replaced with the new Bridgestone E7, but I'm partial to the E7+. And I'll tell you why.

Both balls are constructed virtually the same. This is a multilayer ball geared with distance in mind. The ball has a low penetrating flight that holds up well in the wind and runs down the fairway like the Road Runner trying to avoid Wile E. Coyote. The cover is made of a firm but extremely durable surlyn.

I've played both balls, and the E7+ feels softer to me. Both balls go the same distance on the driver, but this one doesn't sound as "clicky" to me at impact, and I like to play it in the wintertime when the conditions are wet and I'm more concerned about the blustery conditions and getting more distance then holding the green.

For just a little more money, you can get a softer ball: the Bridgestone E5. This ball is still long off of the tee, but it has a urethane cover. Urethane is the same material used in all of the premier balls. In fact, the E5 is one of the cheapest balls I've seen with the urethane cover.

Finally, for the nicest of Bridgestone's supply, check out the Bridgestone B330 and B330S. These are the ones Freddy Couples and other tour pros are using.

Bridgestone E7 Golf Balls Review | Hard Surylin Cover, Long Distance & Low Flight http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-e7-golf-balls-review-hard-surylin-cover-long-distance-low-flight/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-e7-golf-balls-review-hard-surylin-cover-long-distance-low-flight/#comments Sun, 30 May 2010 18:00:40 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2755 Bridgestone E7 Golf Balls Review This is the Bridgestone E7. It's geared more for distance, specifically for a low piercing trajectory. Let's open up the hood and take a look:

The E7 is the next generation of the E7+, only the E7 seems even harder to me. These balls are multilayer balls that go long and straight. The ball is less affected by wind or side spin from your driver. The cover is a very durable surlyn. This is quite a bit harder then urethane, which is used in the better feeling balls. However, it is very long and durable.

The Pros: If you are a slicer or a hooker. (Ahem… I mean you hook the ball.) Then these balls should help fix that some. However, remember there is no ball that is completely slice proof, except maybe a marshmallow. It’s virtually impossible to slice a marshmallow – trust me, I’ve tried! The problem is that marshmallows don’t fly very far.

Where was I? Oh yeah, More Pros: The ball is one of the longest out there. Lack of spin and multiple layers equates to a ball that shoots off your club and flies like a meteorite. When it lands in anything but water (keep an eye out for that) it rolls like a crazy ball. It’s also very durable. Just try and crack this ball – I dare you. Use a blow torch. I don’t care. This ball is like my grandma’s couch that has been reinforced with plastic to save the material. Two raccoons could mate on my grams couch and it’d be no worse for wear. The ironic thing about a ball that is so durable is the majority of people that play this ball hit ‘em into the woods or the water. Oh well.

The Cons: With any distance ball, one gives up feel. If we go back to the couch analogy, grandma’s couch is slightly more pleasing then hitting one of these golf balls. If you’ve been lucky enough to play with a more expensive “players” ball, then you have had the luxury of experiencing how nice it is when you make solid contact. It’s like butter. (If you haven’t, then don’t start now. You’ll get hooked and it will cost you a fortune.

That’s about the only downside, other than spin around the greens. Whereas a Titleist Pro V will stop quick on the green, these E7s will keep rolling out.

To summarize, I recommend these balls for higher handicappers that are looking for a good distance ball that will have a piercing trajectory and run like crazy when it hits the ground. For a little softer feel, buy the older E7+ ball. To me, it's not as "clicky" but still just as long.

If you want a better feel ball for the money, you can get the Bridgestone E5 (with the aforementioned softer urethane cover) for almost the same price as these E7s.

And if you are looking for something even higher end, the Bridgestone B330 and B330-S are Bridgestone's premier tour balls.

Bridgestone Tour Golf Balls B330-S, Soft Urethane | Low Spin for Long Distance http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-tour-golf-balls-b330-s-soft-urethane-low-spin-for-long-distance/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-tour-golf-balls-b330-s-soft-urethane-low-spin-for-long-distance/#comments Sat, 29 May 2010 11:51:05 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2752 Bridgestone Tour Golf Balls B330-S,This is the top of the food chain for golf balls. It doesn't get any better than this. The Bridgestone Tour B330-S is a premium tour ball designed for tour pros and low handicappers. Of course anybody can enjoy them if they are willing to throw down $40.

The ball is a 4-piece construction consisting of a soft urethane cover, a dual mantle, and a high energy core. Of course, the urethane cover is the softest cover on the market and is found in all of the premium balls.

The dual mantle is the cool new technology. The mantle is the layer between the core of the ball and the cover. This mantle dampens the compression of the ball, which essentially reduces spin when hit at high rates of speed like that which might be found at the end of Freddy Couples' driver. Less spin results in longer drives.

Don't worry, though -- the ball spins like mad on short shots and around the greens. If you are adverse to excess spin, try the Bridgestone B330. The B330 has a lower trajectory, less spin, and a firmer feel.

For those of you who want a high performance golf ball but aren't ready to throw down forty bucks, check out Bridgestone's E5 and E5+. These still have the urethane cover but are a bit firmer. The E5 is designed to give you a higher ball flight.

For those of you looking for a lower, penetrating ball flight, please check out the Bridgestone E7+. And for you slower swingers (less than 100mph), take a look at the B330RX and the B330RXS.

Bridgestone Golf Balls E5 High Flight | Urethane Seamless Cover w/ Less Spin http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-golf-balls-e5-high-flight-urethane-seamless-cover-w-less-spin/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-golf-balls-e5-high-flight-urethane-seamless-cover-w-less-spin/#comments Fri, 28 May 2010 18:41:55 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2750 Bridgestone Golf Balls E5 High Flight This is Bridgestone's E5 golf ball. It is designed for you golfers looking for a higher ball flight. Let's take a closer look.

The E5 is a two-piece golf ball consisting of a soft urethane cover and an energy core. The cover is completely seamless which allows for the maximum dimple coverage, and the core is designed for maximum compression from a variety of swing speeds.

This ball is a very long and soft. It is comparable to the Pro V1X. The ball jumps of your driver face and flies very high with not a lot of spin. However, on the short irons shots and around the greens, the ball has a great feel and a lot of bite.

For more spin and a softer feel, I recommend the Bridgestone E5+. This is almost the same ball, but it spins a lot more on short shots and around the green. It's also not quite as long off the tee as the E5, so keep this in mind -- you are giving up some distance for feel here.

For those of you looking for a lower, penetrating ball flight, please check out the Bridgestone E7+. And for you slower swingers (less than 100mph), take a look at the B330RX and the B330RXS. Finally, if you want the top of the food chain, check out the B330 and the B330S.

Bridgestone E5+ Golf Balls w/ Urethane Seamless | High Flight, Soft Feel & Spin http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-e5-golf-balls-w-urethane-seamless-high-flight-soft-feel-spin/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-e5-golf-balls-w-urethane-seamless-high-flight-soft-feel-spin/#comments Thu, 27 May 2010 11:23:09 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2747 Bridgestone E5+ Golf Balls w/ UrethaneThis is Bridgestone's E5+ golf ball. It is designed for you golfers looking for a higher ball flight with a very soft feel and a lot of spin around the greens. Let's take a closer look.

The E5+ is a two-piece golf ball consisting of a soft urethane cover and an energy core. The cover is completely seamless which allows for the maximum coverage of 330 dimples, and the core is designed for maximum compression from a variety of swing speeds.

This ball is very long, soft, and "spinny". It is comparable to the Pro V1. I like 2 -piece balls because they have tremendous distance. This ball doesn't go quite as far off the tee as the Bridgestone E5, but it has a better feel and spin that real touch players will appreciate.

For less spin and more distance, go with the Bridgestone E5. This is almost the same ball, but it is longer off of the tee and not effected by wind as much as the E5+. It still has good zip on short shots and around the green, but not quite as much as the E5+. Thus, you are giving up some feel for distance here.

For those of you looking for a lower, penetrating ball flight, please check out the Bridgestone E7+. And for you slower swingers (less than 100mph), take a look at the B330RX and the B330RXS. Finally, if you want the ball that Tour Pro Freddy Couples is hitting, check out the B330 and the B330S.

Bridgestone Tour Golf Balls, Urethane | New B330-RXS for Slow Swing Speed http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-tour-golf-balls-urethane-new-b330-rxs-for-slow-swing-speed/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/bridgestone-tour-golf-balls-urethane-new-b330-rxs-for-slow-swing-speed/#comments Wed, 26 May 2010 18:59:12 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2744 Bridgestone Tour Golf Balls, Urethane This is a new twist on the B330-RX. The concept behind these two golf balls (the Tour B330-RXS and the B330RX) is they are a tour-quality golf ball designed for amateurs without the tour-quality swings.

Let's get into the nuts and bolts: The main thing that makes this ball "Tour Quality" is the soft urethane cover. This is the gold standard in all your premier golf balls being played on all the tours. I don't know who came up with urethane, but I can tell you he is sitting on a beach right now drinking something fruity with an umbrella in it.

The Tour B330-RXS is designed to benefit those of you with slower swing speeds somewhere around 100 mph or less. If you aren't sure how fast you swing (and you don't have fancy radar), I have a quick and easy test for you. Take out your wedge and tee up a ball on your living room carpet. If you can break out a window with your golf ball, then you should play the Bridgestone B330-S instead.

Seriously, if you don't hit your drives 250 yards or you are playing your 5 iron to 150 yards or less, then this is a good match for you. You will get more distance with this ball because you will be able to compress it, resulting in longer shots. The RXS cover is 12% softer then the RX, so this ball is for those of you looking for more spin and a softer feel.

Champion Tour's Freddy Couples is swinging these. They seem to be working, as he has dominated the Champions Tour since he burst onto the scene. Fred has been playing at the top of his game and hitting these irons pure.

They have a dual pocket cavity. It is pretty cool. Bridgestone has added all the discretionary weight and moved it to the perimeter. This gives the iron more forgiveness while packing more mass directly behind the sweet spot.

I would highly recommend these irons for the low handicappers. The sole is tapered to give you better playability and shot making. If you are a player and like swinging a pure club that will make the ball talk, you can't go wrong with these bad boys.

If you are not sure, then check out the Bridgestone J36s. They are little bit bigger cavity backs and are easier to handle then these tour-quality clubs. Don't get me wrong, the J36s are still a great club for advance players, just gives you a little more confidence. Once you get to single digits, then go for these J38s.

I'm a big fan of the traditional-shaped drivers, and this one meets my tastes. It still is a huge 460cc clubhead, and the rigid sole reduces driver spin and promotes a higher launch angle for maximum carry.

My favorite thing about the club is the modern look on the traditional shape. The club looks like a sports car on the bottom with lots of fast-looking lines with a red tint. But at address, looking down the club is a simple solid black. For my taste, they could have added an alignment aid, but I am just nitpicking a little bit.

I recommend this driver to mid and low handicappers. The club is forgiving but does provide some workability, and shot makers will appreciate it.

This isn't the best driver for those looking for lots of forgiveness and maximum distance. For the higher handicappers, I'd recommend something more game-improving like the Ping G15 or the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo. In fact, the Diablo has a draw version that will help you keep the ball going straight or turn it over for even more distance.
