Odyssy Golf Putters Reviews
History of Odyssey
Blade putters. Some mallets. Nothing new for a long time. Boooring…
Enter Odyssey. The “birth of the insert” in 1991. Odyssey Golf releases the Stronomic mallet putter, which gains its name from the lightweight elastomer that it’s actually made of. While looking completely different than some of the modern Odyssey putters of today, it made quite a splash in the early 20th century by boasting different heel-toe weighting and a slightly rear-focused COG. It quickly gains acceptance by the pros.
1994 — Odyssey decides to release a more “traditional” looking stainless putter with the same Stronomic insert. The tour begins to use them in force, gaining wins with the putter and boosting name recognition.
1996 — The first green jacket is won with an Odyssey putter and only the next year becomes the #1 putter in golf. History is being made. The ’90s continue varied forms of the Stronomic insert and innovative designs.
2000 — The White Hot putter comes on the scene. Made from the same material as popular golf balls, the Stronomic insert gives way to this sharper-looking and more responsive insert that takes the market by storm.
2001 — They continue to innovate by introducing a new way to line up putts: the 2-ball White Hot putter, giving a unique perspective to putting. Odyssey continues to dominate the market with excellent weighting of their putters as well.
2003 — Odyssey boasts 50% of market share. Odyssey continues varied designs through the decade, including a return of the Stronomic insert, pure milled face putters, tour-specific designs, the 3-ball design, and even a Marxman hybrid chipper.
2010 –Odyssey goes for yet another advancement in putter design with a Backstryke — a putter with a completely different back-weighted design.
Choosing an Odyssey Putter
The best thing to do with all of the styles available is to simply try one out. While you can search for hours through all of the varied types, it is best to put one in your hands and see if you like the way it lines up, see if you like the address, and see how it feels when you putt. Period.
If blade putters are your thing, you may like the Odyssey White Hot XG 3 Putter. If you’re into the 2-ball design thing, you may like the 2 Ball Lined Putter. Of course, you may be daring and try out the new Backstryke and simply see if you like innovation.
It’s still one of the top putters in golf no matter which one you try.

Nickel Plated w/ Alignment Aid
Putting is the bane of my existence. If driving is like punching the throttle of a jumbo jet, than putting is the finesse of setting the thousand-pound steel giant softly on the runway. Unfortunately, the way I drive, I'm usually missing the runway altogether and having to ...
White Hot XG Mallet
Putting is my nemesis. How incredibly frustrating when I stripe a 280 yard drive, hit a dart at the pin, and miss a 4 foot putt. "ARGGGGH! I hate this game."
