I usually think of men’s sets when I am recommending entry level golf equipment. The rule is typically you can get better equipment buying everything separate. However, as golf technology has traveled in leaps and bounds, so goes the complete set packages. There is some decent equipment at a great price point thus you can pick up a set and race right out to the 1st tee.
The main thing I’m looking for when buying a complete set is something that will fit my ability, and in addition, like a pair of children’s sneakers, something I can grow into.
Beginners – For you beginner my favorite set out there is the Adams Idea A7 Hybrid Set. This comes with 5 oversized cavity back irons and 3 hybrids. The reason I like them, in addition to the great quality – the irons are not too oversized so that a better player couldn’t appreciate them. This gives you lots of room to improve and not have to go out and buy a new set of sticks. I also think this set of Wilson D-FY is really cool. For a less expensive option I recommend try the Adams A2 club set.
Intermediates – For those of you that are moving away from the “skulling it across the fairway” level, check out this set of Taylormade R7 irons. The iron has a forgiving cavity back with a little bit of offset to help you square the clubhead at impact. The next bump up would be the Taylormade R9s.
Advanced – For those of you who are hitting the sweet spot consistently and want to work the ball. I really love the Mizuno MP-58. This is a beautiful player’s golf club where they’ve put lightweight titanium in the center of the forged clubhead and moved the weight outward towards the perimeter. I also recommend Tiger Woods Victory Red Forged Irons and the Bridgestone Forged J38.
