It can be pretty intimidating buying a pair of golf shoes because there are so many brands with so many varieties. The main thing to determine first is what your priority is – are you looking for style, performance or comfort, or a happy medium in between?
My main concerns are keeping my feet dry and out of pain. This used to be hard to accomplish because all the shoes that were waterproof were so stiff that your foot and ankle would be shredded like cabbage before the shoe was broken in enough to be comfortable. This isn’t the case anymore.
Waterproof – My favorite shoe that is both waterproof and comfortable is the FootJoy Contour Series. A buddy of mine tipped me off on these shoes a few years ago. I tried on a pair in the pro shop and I’ve never looked back. The leather is very soft and the first time I put them on they felt like they were already broken in for me. Other good choices are any of the FootJoy DryJoys.
Performance – There is some really cool technology out there that is designed to give you better traction and enhance your footwork. The Nike Men’s Tour Golf Shoes are a pair Tiger Wood’s used to wear. They have a Nike Power Platform which gives you enhanced gripping traction and a Poron sock liner that adheres to the contours of your foot. I also like the Adidas Tour 360 Sport for both comfort and performance.
Ultra-comfort – In the summer when the weather improves, I like to switch to a pair of ultra comfortable golf shoes that aren’t waterproof. I like this Adidas FitRX Sport Men’s Golf Shoe. Not only are they like wearing running shoes on the golf course but they are very durable. Another cool shoe in this category is Freddy Couple’s shoe – The Ecco Street Premier Men’s Golf Shoe.
